Silvio Muccino prepares for 'R.E.M.'

Film marks a return to a soley acting role

CANNES -- Actor-director Silvio Muccino, one of Italy's brightest young film stars, is beginning preparations for his first international project, an Indian-funded project set in New York.

The project -- titled "R.E.M." -- is based on an original screenplay by Italian author Luca di Fulvio and Carla Vangelista, who co-wrote the book and screenplay with Muccino for his directorial debut "Parlami d'amore" (Talk To Me About Love).

"R.E.M." marks a return to a soley acting role for the 26-year-old, the younger brother of Hollywood director Gabriele Muccino ("The Pursuit of Happyness").

The younger Muccino told THR that the film tells the story of a gang of young people in New York who pull Muccino's character -- visiting from Italy -- into their group. But the drama, he said, is not about gangs but rather about "a sense of fault and of responsibility."

Though no director has yet been named, Muccino said the film is being targeted for a 2009 release.

Kanye West Goes Mad Over Bonnaroo Incident

Kanye West, whose performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival was harshly criticized for starting way late, unleashed himself in a raging post on his official blog.

Once again, the rapper is furious with the bad reviews that followed his delayed appearance at Bonnaroo, where the audience was so angered by his delayed set, they pelted the stage with bottles and trash, eventually chanting "Kanye sucks!"

"I am sick of negative people who just sit around trying 2 plot my downfall," a clearly unhappy West wrote. "Why???? I understand if people don't like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much. But this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I've ever had in my life. This is the most offended I've ever been ... this is the maddest I ever will be."

Explaining the reasons for the delay, the rapper complained about the poor organization of the event, calling the festival promoters "idiots."

West's performance at the festival was scheduled for 2:45 in the early morning of June 15 but he took the stage two hours later due to technical problems with disabling the set for Pearl Jam, who'd gone on right before and played an hour late. Also, setting Kanye's elaborate backdrop took longer than necessary.

"Bonnarroo should have released a statement in my defense, but since they haven't, let's break down the walls on this 'Truman Show' and let you know what really occurred. For over a month, we went back and forth on whether or not we could even fit my stage at the festival. One day, they would say 'Yes,' we'd send them our specs, then they'd say 'OK,' then they would send specs back that didn't fit the stage. We were obviously dealing with f---ing idiots who didn't really have the capacity to really put on this show properly," he explained.

In the end, the rapper apologized for not having the ability to give the performance he wanted to and once again underlined his commitment to all his performances.

Hairspray - Hookers Impress Snow

HAIRSPRAY star BRITTANY SNOW has a new-found respect for hookers after studying the ladies of the night for two back to back film roles.

The cute blonde plays prostitutes in new films Finding Amanda and Black Water Transit and her research left her convinced that most hookers are sweethearts.

She says, "I learned a lot about where they were from and their mindset and how they went about getting to that profession.

"I don't agree with it but I think, after talking with these girls, there's definitely a connection that I have to these girls and what they're all about.

"That stigma that people have is really interesting. There's definitely a notion that the girls come from broken families and they're all messed up and on drugs and crazy.

"That was not the case at all for the girls that I talked to, thankfully. I felt like I was talking to a friend of mine. They were very articulate; they went to high school. Some of them went to college and have kids.

"Some of them looked exactly like me."
